- When I was a software engineer, I went through the process of being acquired twice (or three times depending on how you count it).#
- The first and second times I was working at a small software company (eRoom Technology) that got acquired by a medium sized software company (Documentum) which then promptly itself got acquired by a large company (EMC).#
- The third time, I co-founded a tiny software company (Virtual Ubiquity), which got acquired by a large company (Adobe). #
- In each case, the dominant challenge after being acquired was, "how do we sustain our previous forward momentum now that we are part of a lumbering behemoth (relatively speaking)?"#
- Now think about what must be going on at Dutchie. What's more important? New features? Integration with the other acquisitions? Can't do everything...#
- I was thinking about all this while I was meeting with a couple of sales/bizdev people from Jane. This is their time to double down on forward momentum and build lots of great stuff quickly while they are still small and independent.#
